The Evolution of Yarra's Edge

Located in Melbourne’s Docklands, Yarra’s Edge is a 14.5-hectare development site consisting of predominately residential development, including some retail, showrooms and commercial offices on the site’s frontage to the Yarra River. Mirvac commenced works on the Yarra's Edge site in 1999, after signing the Precinct Development Agreement for $1bn in 1997. Made of four precincts, Marina, Park, River and Wharf’s Entrance, Yarra’s Edge will become home to around 3,000 residents once complete.


Yarra's Edge Precincts

Wharf's Entrance

Wharf’s Entrance is the final precinct in this development, located at the westernmost end of Yarra’s Edge, adjacent to Bolte Bridge. Two sites within this precinct are still subject to planning.

Within the precinct, two stages of terraces have been completed along the promenade, each comprising 18 terraces. Terraces Stage 1 was completed in 2015, followed by Stage 2 in 2018.

The precinct also includes Forge (Tower 10) consisting of 228 apartments and completed in 2016, and Voyager (Tower 11) with 310 apartments completed in 2021. 

Delivered in 2017, the Wharf Club is a recreation facility within the precinct that features a steam room, gym, pool and spa, as well as a 1,775sqm angled rooftop green space above, known as Wharf’s Landing.

 

River Precinct

Developed between 2009 and 2012, the River Precinct has been divided into four stages. There are 82 dwellings in total - made up of 25 Riverfront Homes, 38 Terrace Homes and 19 Home Offices and a 27 Berth Marina.

The precinct consists of a mixture of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes.

 

Park Precinct

Named for its vast public green space offering, Park Precinct is positioned between the River Precinct to the west and the Marina Precinct to the east.

Completed buildings within this precinct include Yarra Point, completed in 2013, a 31-storey tower with 201 apartments and Array, completed in 2015, a 39-level tower, made up of 205 apartments. Point Park is a 1-hectare green space that was also completed as a part of the Park Precinct, and includes children’s play equipment.

The final residential building of the Park Precinct will comprise a 184-apartment tower standing 45 levels, Trielle (Tower 9), along with a newly reinstated waterfront promenade. Construction commenced on the promenade and residential tower in 2024.

Marina Precinct

Construction of this precinct commenced in 1999, and was completed by 2005, delivering five residential apartment towers.

In total, the towers comrpise 756 apartment and a 168-berth marina, known as Marina Yarra’s Edge.

As part of the Yarra’s Edge Precinct, Mirvac has delivered several key infrastructure improvements.

 PARKLANDS
Once complete, Mirvac will have delivered more than 3.7 hectares of green open space for the benefit of the wider community. This includes several pocket parks, the 1,500sqm Wharf Landing Park, the adjacent grass roof at Wharf Club, and the popular 7,750sqm Point Park.

Conveniently located on the north-facing bank of the Yarra River, Yarra's Edge is within immediate proximity to buses and pedestrian/cycling paths direct to the Melbourne CBD and cosmopolitan hubs of Port Melbourne and South Melbourne.

Rehabilitation of this key riverfront parcel from its previous life as an industrial site/shipping port, transforming it into a community that many residents call home and locals can enjoy daily.

YARRA'S EDGE MARINA
Yarra’s Edge Marina is home to 149 privately held berth leases along with 180 metres of bookable overnight berths for visiting boats, activating the riverfront, and offering Melbourne boat users a home in close proximity to the CBD.

RETAIL
Once completed, Yarra’s Edge will feature an array of retail spaces, cafes and restaurants, services, and amenities, creating jobs and opportunities for both residents and the greater community alike. For example, amenities already in operation include a local IGA for daily essentials, the Espressionist café for great coffee, and Pizza Societe.

FACILITIES
In addition to the Marina, riverfront promenade and open green space, Yarra’s Edge offers ample picnic areas accommodated with public barbeques, playground and facilities for public enjoyment.

ACTIVATIONS
Yarra’s Edge hosts a range of activations including Movies Under the Stars, the Summer Festival, and art exhibitions by Gillie & Marc. Mirvac has also supported initiatives like the Think Pink Living Centre and Docklands Dollars, helping to foster community connection and local vibrancy.

The Yarra's Edge Journey

 

  1. Mirvac signs the Precinct Development Agreement for $1 billion for the 14.5-hectare Yarra Waters Precinct to be called Yarra's Edge.

  2. Completion of Marina Precinct, including the delivery of 5 residential apartment towers consisting of 756 apartments and the one-hectare Point Park.

  3. Completion of the River Precinct, including the delivery of 82 two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes and terraces.

  4. Completion of Yarra Point (Tower 8 with 201 apartments) and The Array (Tower 6 with 205 apartments) as a part of the Park Precinct.

  5. Completion of Stage 1 and Stage 2 terrace homes along the river as part of the Wharf’s Entrance precinct. Completion of 228 residential apartments with ground floor retail at Forge (Tower 10). Completion of The Wharf Club and Wharf’s Landing Park.

  6. Completion of Voyager (Tower 11), comprising of 310 apartments across 43 levels as a part of Wharf’s Entrance precinct.

  7. Commencement of construction of new waterfront promenade and residential apartment tower Trielle (Tower 9), consisting of 184 apartments across 45 levels.
